Finished...

The past 12 days have been very full! I completed the work for chapter 15 early, and worked on my final for the rest of the week prior to completing it tonight. I am excited to have finished all my coursework, and to have completed such a fine program at a fine institute. I look forward to entering the administration area of education in the near future. I have learned a great deal in each of my classes, and I am sure that it will come in handy in the my future career.

I learned that curriculum entails much more than what I plan to teach my students in a given semester. I also learned that there are many models of development for curriculum, each one with its own positives and difficulties.

I also need to thank Dr. McCracken, Dr. Flora, Dr. Sellers, Dr. Arbogast, and all my classmates for all their guidance, assistance, and learning experiences on this educational journey.

Another week brings us closer to the end...

WOW! What an interesting week!! Internships have been full on, and time has been very limited. I have also not had phone service for three days(Finally restored tonight!!!) and no electricity last night. I have been doing a lot of reading the past several days, so I actually have chapters 11, 13, and 15 completed. Just have the quizzes, and activities to finish. I am also adding stuff to our group projects each time, which is keeping me even busier!! We are also almost finished with the crosswalk, too!! The summer classes are definitely winding down!

On another note, I received SLS test scores today, and I did pass with an excellent score!! I am so excited to have that obstacle crossed. Two weeks of classes and internship to go...I pray I make it!!!

Week of June 27-July 3

This week has been so draining. A very special person to my family and myself had some major medical problems arise, and he has been hospitalized. Thus, concentrating on my school work has been difficult this week.

HOWEVER, I have been able to get chapter 7 read and my mid-term assignments are complete and submitted. I will be finishing ch7 quiz and assignment in the morning. Yes, I will have to sacrifice some time on July the 4th to continue my education. If a soldier can give all for me, I can give a little time for my degree!

I have learned a great deal about models of curriculum development and have been examining and evaluating my own philosophy of educaton. I have thought about many problems and things I have seen as a teacher that I think I can do better as an administrator. Time will tell, but I am highly motivated and able. I have achieved my goals on many occasions, and this time WILL not be different. I will be an instructional leader who strives to meet the educational needs of all students. Until next time...

Wow...

As I complete this short blog for this week, I am sitting at my desk in a hotel room overlooking Capital Hill in Washington DC. Ironically, our hotel is right beside a graduate school and the Department of Education building. I have have a very event-filled trip through the Teaching American History Grant. We have been to Greenbrier, Monticello, the Spy Musuem, The Miller Center, The National Museum of American History, The Natural History Museum(Smithsonian), and saw as many sights and monuments as 15 miles of walking in two days will show you.

Currently, I have read chapters 5-6 and will complete those assignments by Sunday night. This keeps me on track with the McCracken spacing guide, but one week off of mine. Our group has also been active in our activities as well. If anyone wants to see DC pictures, let me know...I have about 600.

New week, nothing new!!!

Well, a new week has started, and I am still behind in my class. I took the SLLA Saturday, so between finishing the school year and studying for that BIG test, I have not done a lot of work as I should have.

On a better note, this weekend, I have been very busy in my class. I have read chapters 1-4, and I am currently working on my assignments for those chapters to be caught up to my pacing guide. Sometimes I wonder why I am so enthusiastic and always plan too much for myself?? Then I remember why I have been so succesful in my life and career...because I am a go-getter with great work ethic!!

Ok, so chapter one deals with the question...What is curriculum? Ultimately, curriculum is a plan or program for all the learning experiences and encounters a student attains through their educational career at a school. Often, curriculum and instruction are thought to be the same thing. However, one way to distinguish between the two is curriculum is the what and instruction is the how(From the text!)

Chapter two discusses how curriculum is developed. The ten axioms of C.D. are  discussed extensively in this chapter and guide the reader through developing curriculum, while keeping in mind that changes in society, the school, the community, and other things can affect the curriculum and cause changes to need to be made.

Chapter three describes the levels and sectors of Cussiculum planning, as well as patterns of organization at the school and school district levels. Chapter 4 discusses the roles of various school staff and employees in curriculum development and planning, as well as the skills and knowledge needed to be a strong curriculum leader. Communication skills, decision making skills, strong interpersonal relationships, leadership skills, and dealing with change are skills essential in being a strong leader in schools and in curriculum change and development.

Now back to the individual assignments and quizzes....HEY, Who moved my cheese..................???

Summer 2011 part 1...615

Well hello! This will be my blog for my Curriculum class that i am taking through Radford University during the summer of 2011. This class, as well as my Community relations class will complete my degree program at Radford University. I am very excited that I will complete my MS this summer, and will be able to advance my career in the field of education. I truly cherish and enjoy my job as a teacher and a coach. However, I feel that it is time to take that next step and move up into school administration. Aplications are out, so it is up to the school systems to wise up and hire a top notch assistant principal!!

Okay, so this past two weeks has been very hectic. We have been completing SOL testing in my school and the schools in my division. On top of all that, we have been planning graduation, and completing other end of school activities. Therefore, I am officially a little behind on completing class activities.  I have completed my beginning survey, my privacy statement, and my study guide. I have chose a group to participate  in and decided that someone else could be the leader if they so desired. I have read the powerpoint and crosswalk for chapters one and two. I am in the process of completing the chapters in the textbook  so I can complete my quizzes and individual assignments and be caught up. I also plan to move on to chapters 3 and 4 so I can be on target for Friday's self-developed deadlines!!

I also plan to blog one extra time this week so that I can be on schedule with my blogging. This would be a fun and easy way to complete our 690 internship work and assignments. I may do that anyway.   Hmmmmm.....later.....
